Midjourney renders images through Discord or its web app, and the files you download are already flattened, compressed exports rather than raw generator output. That export step is also where most applications strip or never attach descriptive metadata in the first place. Because Midjourney has not published a Content Credentials integration, a missing marker on a Midjourney file is expected, not a sign that something was hidden.
This also means a missing marker cannot be used as proof that an image is not AI-generated: absence of provenance metadata is common for both camera photos and AI output once either has passed through a resave, a screenshot, or a social upload.
